3 ingredients you don't want in your skincare products!
3 ingredients you don't want in your skincare products
Our skin is the largest organ of the human body and what we apply to it actually enters into our bloodstream and impacts our health and wellness.
1. Petroleum/Mineral Oil – derived from the distillation of gasoline. It forms a barrier on the skin like plastic wrap clogging pores, trapping dirt, toxins, bacteria and accelerating the aging process.
2. Parabans - the most commonly used preservative in the cosmetic industry. Parabens possess estrogen-mimicking properties that are associated with increased risk of breast cancer. These chemicals are absorbed through the skin and have been identified in biopsy samples from breast tumors. They can be found in makeup, body washes, deodorants, shampoos and facial cleansers.
3. Sulfates (SLS) – Sodium Lauryl Sulfate/Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) – is commonly found in most personal care products that foam, including bubble baths, body washes, shampoos, soaps and facial cleansers. Sulfates have been found to be one of the most irritating cleansing agents used in skin-care products. Sulfates have also been shown to cause allergic reactions and been linked to cancer, organ toxicity and hormone level disruptions.
If you want to learn more about the toxicity level of the ingredients in your beauty care products, go to the Environmental Working Group website at (www.ewa.org) and search their Skin Deep Cosmetic Database to find out how your products have been rated. The database provides easy-to-navigate safety ratings for tens of thousands of personal care products.

Sugar Free Apple Pie
Who doesn't love apple pie! Well it's my favorite dessert but I needed to find a recipe that would satisfy my sweet tooth but not add inches to my waistline. This recipe is also wonderful for friends and family who may have diabetes and need a sugar free option. This is a very easy pie to make and it tastes wonderful.
Ingredients:
-
10 packets SweetLeaf® Stevia Sweetener
-
Pastry dough for 9-inch, 2-crust pie
-
1/2 tsp. salt
-
2 tablespoons of Vanilla extract
-
1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
-
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
-
3 Tbsp. cornstarch or tapioca starch
-
4 large, Fugi apples
-
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
-
2 Tbsp. butter or coconut oil
-
1 egg, beaten for brushing pie
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Peel, core, and slice the apples. Line a 9-inch pie pan with half the pastry dough.
Mix the stevia, salt, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, applesauce and cornstarch or tapioca in a bowl. Add apples and coat them well. Stir to combine.
Pour the apple mixture into the pie pan lined with pastry dough and dot with butter.
Roll out the top crust and drape it over the pie, or lattice weave strips of dough over the top. Brush the latticed dough with egg and dust with cinnamon. Crimp the edges and cut several vents in the top. Bake 10 minutes, then lower the heat to 350 degrees F and bake 30-40 minutes more or until the apples are tender when pierced with a skewer and the crust is browned.
